Q: WHAT IS COSMETIC DENTISTRY?
A: Also known as esthetic dentistry, cosmetic dentistry is an aspect of dentistry that involves the improvement to the beauty of your smile. This can implement a number of different procedures, including tooth whitening, veneers, replacing silver fillings, and restoring old crowns and bridges.
Q: HOW EFFICIENT ARE OVER THE COUNTER WHITENING SYSTEMS?
A: Most over-the-counter systems are not custom-fit to your mouth, resulting in gaping, irregular whitening, and gum irritation. Many utilize a large dual tray system that does not allow the user to talk or move their mouth. The trays often do not hold the gel in place, minimizing tooth exposure to the bleaching gel and causing the gel to leak into the user’s mouth. Most systems provide bleaching gel in lower concentrations, and little whitening benefit is realized.
Q: ARE COSMETIC PROCEDURES COVERED BY MY INSURANCE?
A: No. Insurance does not cover cosmetic procedures. However, in some cases, cosmetic issues can arise from functional issues, which are more likely to be covered.
